Bathroom heaters are quick to heat small rooms and some models come with a fan or exhaust to extract air and lower humidity. Look at CFM ratings (cubic feet per minute) when trying to find the right one for you.
Timer heaters for bathrooms will save you money. They’re small and portable devices that can be equipped with safety devices such as tip-over switches or bathroom plugs to make it as safe as possible.
Ceiling-Mounted
Bathroom heaters can be of various types and the one you choose for your bathroom will be determined by a lot of factors. The best bathroom heater for space might be a ceiling-mount one, while the best portable heater for plug-in options and plug-in freedom are portable heaters.
If you are looking for a ceiling heater, look for one that is engineered to blend in with the ceiling for a professional-looking look. Don’t forget its power consumption too — the bigger ones heat up your home quicker.
Ask if the heater has a timer setting so it automatically switches itself off at certain times (saving you energy and money). And some models even have an indicator light to let you know it’s on.
And finally, always connect your heater to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet that stops power if an abnormal current is detected – you and your family can avoid electrical fires or shocks. Also ensure that your heater is equipped with overheat protection circuit and tip over safety switch to keep it safe and reliable.
Wall-Mounted
Electric heaters that hang on the wall are enclosed appliances that pull air in through the front and expel it out the back – whether as the only heat source in a room or as an add-on heat source in rooms that don’t have ducts.
Most electric bathroom heaters include a fan to distribute warm air faster and more evenly across the room, as well as a thermostat that senses temperature and shuts itself off automatically when it’s reached. This is also a huge savings on energy when compared to electric heating of the entire house which consumes a great deal of energy while it is being generated and transmitted.
When shopping for a bathroom heater, choose an IP rating of 4+. This rating shows the extent of protection of the unit from water and debris (tools, etc).
If you will be hanging towels from your heater, then you will want enough hooks on it. Also refer to the manufacturer’s buffer zone; this should be between your heater and anything combustible, such as towels or toilet paper, so you won’t accidentally burn its orange-hot metal heating elements inside. Lastly, check that it is bathroom and kitchen compatible as some designs are not available for both spaces.
Space Heaters
Portable space heaters might be an affordable solution if you are looking for a cheaper solution to the central heating. These instant heaters heat up a room instantly – great for rooms of one. These are available in all sizes and shapes and electric, gas or oil-powered versions – meaning that there is one for every room in the house.
Electric ones heat up a room with hot air through ceramic rolls that contain metal coils; some even have thermostats to regulate them. – Oil-filled versions can also use hot oil to draw heat into a room – though they are less energy efficient and can be fire hazards.
If you are shopping for a space heater, read its product description and manufacturer recommendations carefully. Select the right wattage and room size for your own home, and shop from reputable sites with return policies if you are not completely happy with the product. Make sure that it has an auto-shutoff function in case it tip or gets too hot, to avoid fire and injury. If your power breaker blows when you’re using it a lot, then you might need a new electrical wire.
